Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management in a caretaker capacity Professor Dragan Glamočić, PhD, opened the jubilee 20th Annual Working Meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture from South Eastern Europe (SEE) today.
Glamočić emphasised that a clear message is being sent from Belgrade today, that Serbia is a reliable partner to the European Union, a driver of regional cooperation, and a country modernising its agriculture and bringing it closer to European standards through concrete reforms.
Our European orientation is not merely declarative; it is clearly visible in our actions. The Serbian government has adopted the Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development through 2034, which is aligned with the principles of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy, the Minister noted.
According to him, Serbia has never viewed its own development in isolation from the development of the region.
Our goal is clear – stronger farmers, modernised rural areas, a more competitive and strong Serbia, a more interconnected region, a shared European future, and keeping young people in rural areas, Glamočić stated.
The first part of the meeting focused on the progress made by countries in the region in developing and aligning with the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy, with participants addressed online by representative of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development Frank Bollen.
An overview of regional cooperation to date in the agri-food sector, conducted under the auspices of the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group (SWG) in SEE, was also presented during the meeting.
The meeting brought together ministers and heads of delegation from countries in the region, diplomatic representatives, and officials from the European Commission as well as leading international and regional organisations, with the aim of holding high-level discussions on the future of agriculture and rural development, European integration, and the further strengthening of regional cooperation.
