Minister of Mining and Energy in a caretaker capacity Dubravka Đedović Handanović met today with Romanian Ambassador to Serbia Silvia Davidoiu to discuss cooperation in the energy sector, with a particular focus on the construction of a gas interconnection between the two countries.

Gas interconnection with Romania to further enhance energy security

Đedović Handanović highlighted that the preparation of the project and technical documentation for the gas pipeline section leading to the Romanian border, approximately 13 kilometres in length, is largely complete, and that work on this section is expected to be finished next year.
She noted that the World Bank last week approved Serbia’s Gas Sector Development Programme, which aims to enhance the security, reliability and resilience of energy supplies through investments in strategic gas infrastructure.
Under this programme, plans are in place to construct approximately 150 kilometres of gas pipeline connecting the new gas interconnection with Romania and the Banatski Dvor underground gas storage facility, Belgrade, and Pančevo, as well as the northern route towards Horgoš.
