The statement says that the automotive industry is responsible in the greatest part for the fact that Serbia recorded a growth in export of 22% in the first quarter of the year, and that in March it reached a record high of €857 million on the monthly level.
Thanks to the export of Fiat 500 L and of auto components manufactured in more than 150 factories around the country, the automobile industry has become the fastest-growing industry, accounting for 20% of the total Serbian exports.
The production and the sale of Fiat’s new model on the US market will be of great importance for the overall economic development of Serbia and for achieving a surplus in foreign trade, which is in accordance with the Action plan for re-industrialisation of Serbia.
This year, Serbia can expect approximately €2 billion in export revenues from Fiat and its suppliers. The company this year plans to produce 110 to 150 thousand cars, and to market vehicles in more than one hundred markets around the world including the Asia-Pacific region.
This is supported by the fact that due to the increased production and export plans, this company hired 600 new employees in the past, whereas now it employs approximately 3,000 workers and more than 1,200 staff at the company's suppliers and subcontractors.
The European Commission has estimated that Fiat Automobiles Serbia has a positive effect on the economy of Serbia and that it contributes to its stabilisation and recovery.
Through measures of economic policy the Serbian government will continue to promote this industry so that this encouraging trend could continue in the future, it is added in the statement.
