Selakovic expressed satisfaction with the visit of representatives of the German Bundestag and the French National Assembly, and noted that these two countries have always been a model to Serbia when it comes to human rights and democratic development.
During the talks the Minister presented activities of the competent ministry in the last few months, pointing out that the main principle is building stable and independent judiciary institutions, with a systemic approach to solving problems.
He stated that in late 2012 the Ministry set up several working groups tasked with amending more than 10 judiciary laws, but only in the segments that required urgent intervention because they were not applicable.
According to him, the Ministry is working on the preparation of three strategic documents, and the working groups completed the first drafts of the National strategy for reform of the judiciary and the National strategy for fight against corruption.
Public debates are still in course and actions plans for implementation of these strategies will be ready when the texts of the strategies are finalised.
Selakovic said that a public debate on the National strategy of reform of the public administration system should start in May, whose first working version will be finished soon and presented in the Serbian Parliament in September.
He underlined that all strategic documents have been prepared in cooperation with international institutions and with the support of EU experts, and announced that the amended working version of the Strategy for reform of the judiciary with recommendations of foreign experts will be released today.
The Minister underlined that one of the priorities for the next period will be strengthening independence and capacity of the High Judiciary Council and the State Prosecutors’ Council, reads a statement by the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration.
