The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management has announced that bluetongue disease has been confirmed in sheep on two farms in the municipality of Bosilegrad, in the villages of Donja Ljubata and Gornja Lisina.
The Veterinary Directorate responded immediately and, in accordance with the law, issued a decision declaring an area within a 100-kilometre radius of the outbreak as an infected zone.
At the same time, an area extending 50 kilometres beyond the border of the infected zone has been declared as at risk.
Control and prevention measures have been introduced in both zones to prevent further spread of the disease.
