Addressing the participants in the meeting, Parivodic said that the major goals of the Ministry are further integration of Serbia in the European Union and the World Trade Organisation, reduction of foreign trade deficit, continuation of judiciary reform and the improvement of Serbia's image in the world.
The Minister drew special attention to the legislative activity of the Ministry (the Law on enforcement procedure, the Law on mortgage, the Law on factoring, the Law on foreign trade, the Law on arbitration, the Law on science parks), and the activities in the field of attracting foreign investment through initiatives and work on the policy of formation of clusters and industrial parks.
He said that the Ministry's priorities are to create a favourable framework and to remove obstacles to investment with the aim of making Serbia a more attractive and safer destination for foreign investors. He said that approximately €1 billion of foreign capital is expected to enter Serbia this year.
Parivodic said that the main obstacles to foreign investment are regulating the status of city building land and private property rights, i.e., the process of denationalisation. He said that the government is aware of these problems and the necessity to solve them as soon as possible.
Parivodic said that two task forces have been appointed to improve the work of inspections and to regulate the issues of city building land.
He added that protection of intellectual property is another problem that the Serbian government needs to solve, in order to set up an appropriate legal and judicial system that will regulate this area.
Parivodic called on AmCham to get involved and give suggestions with the aim of creating a more favourable business climate in Serbia. They also agreed to hold monthly meetings between the Serbian government and AmCham representatives.
