Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Zarko Obradovic presented today in New York, at a regular session of the Executive Board of UNICEF, the results of the implementation of inclusion in the educational system of Serbia.
Obradovic spoke about innovations, such as the national framework for monitoring progress in reducing disparities in education and the network of support to inclusive education, involving the government of Serbia and more than 50 national civil society organisations.
He said that approximately 15,000 teachers, or one-fifth of the total teaching staff, have been trained.
Obradovic pointed out that one-third of primary schools in Serbia in 2010 increased enrollment of school children with special needs and disabilities.
At the regular session of the Executive Board of UNICEF, UNICEF’s document “The Right of Children with Disabilities to Education: A Rights-Based Approach to Inclusive Education in the CEECIS Region” was presented.
Inclusive education is the key to achieving quality education for all students, reduce inequality and build a more inclusive society.
Serbia has been commended for inclusive education at the meeting today, according to a statement by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development.
