The Serbian parliament enacted today the Law on postal services, Law on railways, Law on mediation, and changes and amendments to the Law on the harmonisation of the economic systems of member-states of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro.
The Law on postal services introduces competition and liberalisation in the postal services market. It also envisions the setting up of the Agency for postal services as an independent market regulator.
The Law on railways is aimed at reorganizing rail transport and it involves the setting up of public enterprises to manage the railroad infrastructure and public transport. The law’s main objectives are increasing the efficiency of transport, improving the quality of services, and integration into the EU’s railway system.
The Law on mediation should allow for the resolution of disputes with the help of one or more mediators, whose role is to help disputing parties reach an agreement.
The parliament also passed changes to the Law on the harmonisation of the economic systems of member-states of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro to help speed up EU integration and accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
