Serbia, Ukraine confirm support for territorial integrity, strengthening of economic cooperation

Belgrade, 8 August 2026

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić stated today that Serbia fundamentally supports the territorial integrity of all UN member states, which also means the territorial integrity of Ukraine, and expressed gratitude to Ukraine for supporting Serbia’s territorial integrity regarding the issue of Kosovo and Metohija.

At a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is on an official visit to Serbia, Vučić stated that he was honoured and pleased to be able to host the President of Ukraine today and yesterday in Belgrade, and emphasised that the last visit of a Ukrainian president to Serbia was eight years ago.

The President of Serbia said that everything they discussed during the meetings, which concerns the improvement of bilateral relations between Serbia and Ukraine, will lead to progress and deepening of cooperation in all areas of social life.

Stating that they discussed various topics, he added that among these topics was the European path of Serbia and Ukraine.

According to him, Ukraine will always have Serbia’s full support on its European path.

Vučić pointed out that Serbia and Ukraine have significantly increased the level of trade exchange, which last year amounted to around $450 million, and already this year, in the first six months, it is significantly higher, standing at around $321 million.

The President of Serbia noted that they also discussed joint projects in the field of infrastructure and the engagement of Ukrainian companies in the territory of Serbia.

He also added that they discussed various types and levels of humanitarian aid.

We have already determined significant assistance in medicines, I believe that we will also provide as much help as we can in the energy sector and various devices that are necessary for Ukraine, especially for the winter period, he stressed.

Vučić thanked the Ukrainian President for the support he always provides to Serbia on its European path.

The President of Serbia expressed his belief that significant results in cooperation can be achieved in the coming period, both in mining and energy, and especially in the field of agriculture.

He stressed that not only the import of iron ore is important for Serbia, but also of mercantile soybeans, soybean meal and flax seeds.

When export is concerned, he singled out fruit seedlings, sunflower seeds and baby food, adding he wants the level of cooperation between the two countries to be raised to the highest possible level.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he discussed with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić bilateral cooperation, infrastructure projects, energy, food security and a free trade agreement.

Zelenskyy stated that he had discussed with the Serbian President specific infrastructure projects, including reconstruction projects in Ukraine that the two countries could jointly implement, assessing that this would contribute to preserving existing and creating new jobs in Ukraine and Serbia.

The Ukrainian President added that they also discussed food safety, as well as the energy situation in Ukraine.

Every engagement with partners in the field of energy is of great importance and there are ways to strengthen cooperation, the Ukrainian President said.

He said that negotiations on a free trade agreement between Serbia and Ukraine are progressing and expressed hope that preparations will be completed by the end of the year so that the agreement can be concluded.

Zelenskyy also said that Ukraine supports the acceleration of Serbia’s European path.

Our relations are based on mutual respect and we want every nation in Europe to receive a clear signal from the European Union that it needs it and that it cannot afford to lose anyone, Zelenskyy stressed.

Speaking about the war in Ukraine, the Ukrainian President stated that he discussed with Vučić diplomatic options for ending it.

He thanked the citizens of Serbia for welcoming the Ukrainians and expressed his gratitude to the President of Serbia for the invitation and support.

Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine greatly appreciates Serbia’s support for the Ukrainian people, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of his country.

The President of Ukraine said that Ukraine is grateful that Serbia is planning a new package of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, especially in the areas of health and energy.

He reiterated that Ukraine does not change its position on respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia when it comes to Kosovo and Metohija and stressed that Ukraine respects the territorial integrity of its partners and international law.

Zelenskyy added that Ukraine is equally grateful to its partners, namely Serbia, for respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
