Johannes Eigner and Nikola Selakovic
The Ministry of Justice and Public Administration states that Selakovic said that Serbia has been facing the poor state of the judiciary for decades and that reform implemented in 2009 further worsened the situation, which is reflected on most Serbian citizens.
He presented Eigner with extensive normative activity that is conducted by the Ministry over the past three months, as well as with the benefits of the Judiciary Academy, whose main task is educating lawyers.
The Minister of Justice and Public Administration emphasised that one of the main objectives of his Ministry and of the Serbian government is the fight against corruption and organised crime.
Serbia should use the experience of other countries that have clearly defined mechanism and institutional models of the fight against corruption, he said.
Eigner has expressed interest in working groups that have been working on amendments to more than ten judicial laws, and for the return of unelected judges and prosecutors and their reintegration into the justice system.
Selakovic recalled that the Ministry has begun work on three strategies: the strategy for reform of the judiciary, the strategy for the fight against corruption and the strategy for the development of public administration, and that the first draft version of the strategy for the fight against corruption will be completed by mid of this month, the statement added.
