Dinkic said that the machine will increase the capacity for preparing and drying tobacco by 20% and added that this year's investment of JTI in Serbia amounted to $40 million.
The Minister said that the investment will contribute to further employment in the production of tobacco and cigarettes, and recalled that 600 workers of the factory, including employees in Senta and Belgrade and subcontractors, have secure incomes.
He said that since it overtook Duvanska Industrija Senta, JTI has invested over $140 million in Serbia, modernised production plants, launched the production of cigarettes and started exports in Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Croatia and Albania and export of tobacco in the EU.
According to Dinkic, the Serbian government has a plan to help contractors
and other farmers in irrigating fields where tobacco is grown, which may increase yield two to three times.
Dinkic expressed satisfaction over the announcement of the management of the factory in Senta that this year the company’s export of tobacco and cigarettes will be worth $35 million, noting that last year JTI exported tobacco worth $11 million.
The Minister announced establishing an interdepartmental team consisting of representatives from the prosecution, the police and the ministries of agriculture and finance, with a mission to investigate instances of failed privatisations of agricultural plants and agricultural land.
Dinkic confirmed that a working group will be formed in charge of drafting a law on the financing of Vojvodina, which should be completed in the first half of next year.
