As part of his visit to the United States, Sreckovic addressed the church and people’s council at Nova Gracanica monastery near Chicago, in the presence of Bishop Longin of the Diocese of America and Canada and representatives of national Serbian organisations.
The Minister underlined that Serbia of today aspires to become the focal point of the entire Serbian national corpus, stressing that because of its size and the economic and lobbying potential, the diaspora is of strategic importance for Serbia.
The government has begun a new era of relations to the benefit of the state and every Serbian national, regardless of whether his place of abode is in Serbia, Croatia, Germany or the United States, he added.
Our task is to combine our forces and use this to facilitate political and economic progress of Serbia, Sreckovic observed.
During his visit to the United States, where over 200,000 Serbs live, Sreckovic will meet with diaspora representatives and Serbian businesspeople to acquaint them with Serbia’s investment catalogue.
He will visit the only bilingual Serbian school in America – St. Sava’s Academy in Chicago, and will also meet with bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church of Holy Resurrection in Chicago.
