Vojislav Kostunica
"First of all, we have to implement decisions made at the very end of the last year, and that is the formation of a council and a fund for Kosovo-Metohija, and the reorganisation of the Coordinating Centre," Kostunica told the Beta news agency.
According to the Prime Minister, this year must be fully dedicated to the protection of human rights and protection of Serbs and non-Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija, because they were and still are deprived even of the most fundamental right, and that is the right to life.
"Neither the institutions and forces of the international community nor Kosovo institutions, no matter how numerous they are, have been able to really protect Serbs, nor have they showed readiness to face their own responsibility for the disastrous situation of human rights in the province", the Prime Minister stressed.
He said that the year that is ahead of us is important because respect of UN Security Council Resolution 1244 must be honoured. The resolution guarantees sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, with Kosovo-Metohija as part of it.
"Since our country and our future is matter of discussion, Belgrade must be an equal member in the talks on the province's decentralisation and the securing of necessary institutional guarantees for rights and freedoms of Serbs in Kosovo and of twice that number of displaced persons who have the right to return to their homes and the homeland," Kostunica said.
Kostunica said that he is convinced that in 2005, Serbia, all its citizens and the Diaspora will offer assistance to Serbs in Kosovo and those expelled from the region.
