Petković conveyed to his interlocutor that the aforementioned EU solution is important for the day-to-day life of Serbs and the uninterrupted functioning of Serbian educational and healthcare institutions in Kosovo and Metohija, but that, on the other hand, problems persist with regard to the issuance of documents.
He therefore stressed that it is important for EU representatives to actively monitor this process in order to avoid any obstacles, and that the European Union should further intensify its engagement in finding a solution to the issue of motor vehicles.
The Director of the Office also pointed out that Belgrade is at all times ready to continue the dialogue with Priština at the technical level, as well as to engage in discussions on the draft Statute of the Community of Serb Municipalities, particularly bearing in mind that 19 April marks 13 years since the signing of the First Brussels Agreement on the normalisation of relations, which envisaged the establishment of the Community.
For this reason, Serbs rightfully expect that this obligation undertaken by Priština will be fulfilled, as its implementation is guaranteed by the European Union itself, Petković underlined.
He emphasised that, for Belgrade, the most important priority is to preserve peace and security for Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, while respecting their fundamental human rights, noting that unilateral and escalatory moves by Priština do not contribute to the normalisation of relations on the ground.
