Presenting the report, Bulatovic said that the security situation in Serbia is stable, but that activity of ethnic Albanian extremists and terrorists in Kosovo-Metohija still has negative influence on overall safety.
According to Bulatovic, in the previous period BIA engaged in fighting ethnic Albanian separatism and extremism, tracking and documenting extremists' activities in nationally mixed communities, and activities of foreign factors aimed against Serbia's interests.
BIA also collected intelligence data important for the security of the republic, Bulatovic said while pointing out that although the nature of BIA's work partly requires secrecy, there is a need for transparency and demystification so that citizens can familiarise themselves with the agency's activities thus clearing away their doubts.
Bulatovic stressed that organisational restructuring of BIA was carried out in the previous period with the aim of creating a modern agency in democratic Serbia. He added that six percent of employees left BIA and were replaced by half that number of personnel who were in turn more highly qualified.
