Minister of Labour and Social Policy Rasim Ljajic met today with an IMF delegation, led by mission head Albert Jaeger, and discussed details of the new precautionary deal which Serbia will close with the IMF.

The Ministry says in a statement that Ljajic and Jaeger agreed that in order to continue the reform process in Serbia, a new precautionary arrangement should be signed.
During the meeting, Ljajic acquainted the IMF delegation with details pertaining to the enforcement of the new Law on social care, which increased social welfare payments and expanded the number of beneficiaries. He also informed him about details of the tripartite Socio-economic Agreement for 2001, signed recently by Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic and representatives of unions and the Serbian Association of Employers.
Speaking about the status of the social dialogue in Serbia, Ljajic voiced his expectation that during the period ahead the Socio-Economic Council will take on a more important role in the continuation of reforms in the public sector and labour market, and legislation amendments regarding foreign investments, the statement adds.
