Cvetkovic, explaining the Bill on the Serbian budget for 2011 in the Serbian parliament, said that the document adhered to two key principles for economic revival, namely growth and savings.
He pointed out that the proposed budget primarily represents a realistic and objective reflection of the economic situation in our country, noting that even much wealthier countries were unable to accelerate development and increase their savings.
The proposed budget will be one of the pillars of economic policy, providing support to the economy, industrial development, export and implementation of significant infrastructure projects, he explained.
Cvetkovic said that the budget will reduce public spending and will ensure the functioning of vital state functions.
The proposed budget is socially responsible because it provides the necessary state protection to vulnerable groups, stressed the Prime Minister and said that this document is of vital importance to all citizens and for the future of Serbia.
Ahead of Serbia are big plans and great obligations, including European integration, fundamental and vital reform, economic recovery, infrastructure building and stabilisation of the region.
He pointed to the fact that this government achieved serious results in attaining all national goals, adding that Serbia needs to be strong and well-organised.
The role of the government is to provide the vital functioning of the state and a dignified life for citizens, that this budget provides, said Cvetkovic.
Serbia over the past two decades suffered sanctions, economic decline, wars and the loss of economic resources, but the world economic crisis had no devastating effects on us, he said.
We managed to avoid the worst, we prevented the collapse of the economy, banks going bankrupt and companies laying off workers, the Prime Minister said, adding that many countries that were in much better position than Serbia suffered more.
This did not happen by itself, he said, stressing that the government during the difficult year that is behind took serious and timely anti-crisis measures.
He said that the year ahead will be easier, and that the government will pursue a secure and stable policy, free of risks, improvisations, experimenting or actions that would hinder the country's democratic development.
A new model of economic development that will be essential to revive the Serbian economy will be implemented in 2011, concluded the Prime Minister.
