After talks with the factory’s leadership and a tour of its facilities, Dinkic specified that the military industry will export goods worth almost €200 million this year, while contracted jobs for upcoming years exceed this amount manifold.
Utva, which is undergoing restructuring, has employed more than 180 new people in the past two years, the Minister affirmed and added that the factory now has a total of 380 employees.
The Serbian government will support the military industry, especially its exports, Dinkic stated and remarked Serbia’s exports in September and October, expressed in euros, are higher by 21 per cent than in the same period last year.
Sutanovac highlighted that Lasta aircraft and other Utva products are currently the most technologically complex export products of Serbia.
In addition to the agreed delivery of 20 aircraft for the air forces of Iraq, the Serbian Army has ordered another 15 aircraft, the Defence Minister confirmed.
Sutanovac recalled that Utva has been in restructuring since 2008, which was the Serbian government’s decision after two failed privatisation attempts. As a result, the production in this Pancevo plant has been preserved and some new products are being made.
He noted that the restructuring of factory Utva is the most successful project of this kind implemented by the government.
