Advancing cooperation with Azerbaijan in field of defence

Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić met today with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, to discuss advancing cooperation in the field of defence, as well as the security situation in the region and the world.

Gašić pointed out that the long-term violation of the basic principles of the international legal order and interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states have led to an increase in the number of new conflicts and hybrid wars, as well as the faster escalation of regional conflicts into global tensions.

Serbia’s defence policy is based on respect for international law, the United Nations Charter and all relevant UN Security Council resolutions, preserving military neutrality, strengthening its own defence capabilities and its foreign policy commitment to membership in the European Union, the Minister emphasised.

He said that Serbia appreciates Azerbaijan’s consistent position on the issue of non-recognition of the so-called Kosovo and, at the same time, expressed concern about the processes taking place in the territory of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, which are in contradiction with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244.

Hasanov underlined that Azerbaijan highly values its friendly relations with Serbia and expressed his belief that today’s meeting will contribute to further improving partnership relations between the two countries, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defence.
