Cvetkovic observed that the EIB is one of the greatest financial investors in Serbia, which is affirmed by the fact that since 2001 the bank has invested €3 billion in Serbia.
He observed that the funds were directed into sectors in which the government is interested the most, namely infrastructure and energy, as well as for support to the private sector in various remits.
Serbia is keen on continuing and strengthening cooperation with the EIB as this will help to boost the competitiveness of its economy, while on the other hand this will facilitate its path to the EU, Cvetkovic underlined.
Maystadt explained that the EIB office in Belgrade will help to strengthen cooperation with the Serbian administration and government, and is a logical step on Serbia’s path to the EU.

The agreement on an EIB loan for the replacement of electric meters amounts to €40 million and will be used to replace 5% of old meters in Serbia.
The project is worth €80 million and apart from the EIB loan another €40 million will be provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
