Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Milos Milovanovic stated today that a joint agricultural information system of all countries in the region would make them more attractive to foreign importers and exporters of agricultural and food products.
At a regional conference on market information systems, he said that the goal of this conference is to establish such a common regional system for the entire region.
US Ambassador to Serbia Mary Warlick stressed that the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) wants to help Serbia increase its economic growth by reforming the country’s agricultural sector and integrate more into the global market.
State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Milan Petrovic confirmed that cooperation with the USDA has been very useful due to exchange of expertise with US colleagues which can be applied in the analysis of Serbian agriculture.
He outlined that this conference is part of the USDA’s assistance programme aimed at improving the agricultural market information system of Serbia (STIPS programme) and boosting inter-regional cooperation.
This Ministry has been implementing this programme since 2004, and owing to the US assistance, Serbia was among the first countries in the region to have established a market information system and to have enabled it to function successfully.
The conference is being organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management together with the USDA Office at the US Embassy in Serbia.
