Speaking at an extraordinary session of the UN Security Council requested by Serbia to discuss the bombing attack of 2 July in Kosovska Mitrovica in which one person was killed and 11 injured, Tadic pointed out that the incident was an attempt to heighten inter-ethnic tension and sabotage the efforts to attain sustainable peace in the province.
This is yet another destructive consequence of their dark plan, partly supported by the so-called International Civilian Office headed by Pieter Feith, to impose an illegal and unwanted regime in this part of our province, Tadic said, noting that it was from the yard of an Albanian house that the two bombs were thrown at the participants in a peaceful protest against the opening of an office of the unrecognised Kosovo government.
Serbia urges the international community to prevent events like these from reoccurring and to ensure that the illegal International Civilian Office in northern Kosovska Mitrovica remains closed, adding that Kosovo Albanians must grasp the consequences of resorting to unilateral moves.
EULEX must bring the perpetrators of all attacks against Kosovo Serbs to justice and NATO has to retain the current number of troops tasked with guarding churches and monasteries in the province, he observed.

Serbia will not tolerate the opening of offices and courts and the construction of telecommunications infrastructure under the auspices of Pristina interim institutions in Serb-inhabited areas in Kosovo-Metohija, Tadic underlined.
He recalled that after the March 2004 pogrom, a part of the international community recognised the unilaterally declared independence and thus rewarded Kosovo Albanians for the pogrom they had committed against the Serbs , therefore he emphatically expressed his hope that Pristina would not be encouraged to use violence again.
The President noted that the only way to establish stability in Kosovo-Metohija is to fully implement the six-item plan by the UN Secretary-General, which was unanimously adopted by the Security Council.
Unilaterally declared independence cannot lead to peace and stability, although some do not want to hear this truth. Peace stems from agreement, just as stability can only result from consensus, he added.
The President voiced his hope that the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice in The Hague will not legitimise the unilaterally declared independence because otherwise every border anywhere in the world would be threatened by secessionist ambitions.
In the near future some other state may go through Serbia’s ordeal and the world would then soon realise that the stream unleashed with the recognition of Kosovo’s unilateral independence would turn into a river of uncontrolled secessions all over the planet. This is why we call upon all states that have not recognised the province’s independence to hold on to that decision, Tadic underlined.

Problems in Kosovo-Metohija cannot be solved outside the status context, which is why it is necessary to come to an all-encompassing solution in new talks between Serbs and Albanians.
We are determined to reach a sustainable agreement. We do not have the right to fail. Our intention is not to humiliate anyone, but what we want is a just solution to the Kosovo-Metohija status issue which all sides would accept, Tadic declared.
Regardless of the consequences, Serbia will never recognise Kosovo's unilaterally declared independence, but it also will not give up on its search for a compromise solution, the President concluded.
