The Ministry of Justice strongly protests against the shameful and legally unsustainable decision of the provisional institutions in Priština to prohibit persons of Serbian nationality, who have residence and homes in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija, from returning to their homes and families – solely due to their ethnic background and employment in Serbian state institutions.

The denial of citizens’ right to return to their homes, be with their families and live in their communities constitutes a grave violation of basic human rights and a direct blow to the legal order.
We therefore demand that UNMIK and EULEX, as well as all donors supporting the work of the provisional institutions in Priština, react urgently in order to stop this practice and hold those responsible accountable.
For every such act that deprives Serbs of their right to a home and to private and family life, the international community bears full responsibility.
The Ministry of Justice will initiate proceedings for the protection of basic human rights through all available domestic and international legal mechanisms, and will pursue not only political but also criminal accountability of all those violating fundamental human rights.
