Milosavljevic stated in an interview to Tanjug news agency that, according to recent analysis, Serbia could record deflation in one of the upcoming months, as was the case last year.
This, he remarked, could happen but with an assumption that prices remain within the projected inflation forecast for this year of 6%, plus or minus 2%.
The Minister highlighted that the economy recorded a positive trend in the first four months of this year, which is reflected in the 4.8% industrial growth, as well as in export growth of as much as 24% when compared to the same period of last year.
In the first four months of 2009, import-export coverage amounted to approximately 45%, while in the same period this year, it improved to approximately 55%, he declared.
Milosavljevic pointed out that this indicator is a positive step forward which suggests that the huge deficit in foreign trade, which was for years a major problem for the Serbian economy, is decreasing.
He underlined that VAT should not go up because increasing energy prices and depreciation of the dinar could undermine price stability and the overall macroeconomic environment for business and the economy in Serbia.
Filling the Serbian budget is undergoing as planned regardless of the budget deficit of 4.8% as opposed to the planned 4%, the Minister concluded.
