Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development, Dinkic said that unemployment is a major problem not only in Serbia but also worldwide.
Any opportunity means a lot for a young person. Many young people in Serbia are unemployed. We set aside funds to ensure that 10,000 young people get their first chance, their first job, said the Minister.
Various businesses participated in the public competition, from bakeries to banks, Dinkic said, adding that young people living outside Belgrade, where unemployment rates are doubly high, are the most disadvantaged.
Many young people are moving from the provincial areas to the capital city because their local environment cannot offer them the opportunities they need, he said.
Director of the National Employment Service Dejan Jovanovic stated that around 6,000 requests have been submitted, adding that he expects the number of employers willing to hire a certain number of volunteers to increase in the near future.
He said that this is one of the most important projects in Serbia because it is intended to help young people below 30 years of age.
A total of RSD 1.8 billion has been set aside from the budget this year to stimulate youth employment within the First Chance programme.
