Serbian Minister of Finance Diana Dragutinovic, Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas and EIB Vice President Dario Scannapieco signed the Agreement, which envisages that funds from the donation should be used by the end of 2015 for infrastructural projects in the city.
Dragutinovic said that this donation is addition to the agreement signed in 2003 with EIB, when Belgrade received €90 million for reconstruction, of which €70 million has been used so far.
Belgrade Mayor voiced the hope that this cooperation with EIB will be continued for projects including the city railway, the bridge on Ada Ciganlija as well as the purchase of new gas-fuelled buses, which the city is planning to buy within next three years.
By providing the €6 million donation the bank wishes to signal that Europe and EIB are committed to assisting in the reconstruction of Belgrade and to help Serbia, said Scannapieco.
The project for the renovation of Belgrade has been continuously implemented since 2005 and includes the reconstruction of the tramway tracks and the city’s main road systems and the introduction and modernisation of the remote traffic supervisory system.
The reconstruction of Nemanjina Street has been completed. The reconstruction of 12 flyovers at Autokomanda, the tramway tracks from the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences to the roundabout and the reconstruction of the Juzni Bulevar from Maksima Gorkog to Ustanicka have been completed as well.
Three kilometres of tramway tracks in three main streets of New Belgrade have also been reconstructed.
As part of the project the Stari Zeleznicki Bridge, the tramway tracks in Savskoj Street and partially in Bulevar Vojvode Misica have also been reconstructed.
