Minister for National Investment Plan Verica Kalanovic, who attended the signing, said that the document is worth €1.9 million, noting that the bridge over the Danube will be one of the most important infrastructure projects in Belgrade.
She pointed out that the first phase, which includes creation of the design project, will be completed in the next two months, while the deadline for completion of the works on the bridge is the end of 2013.
According to Kalanovic, the bridge will be 1.5 kilometres long, while all other traffic roads will be 21 kilometres long.
The Minister stressed that the project will cost €170 million, adding that 85% of the costs will be covered with a loan from the China Exim Bank, 15% of the funds will come from the NIP, while the expenses of expropriation and technical preparations will be paid by the City of Belgrade.
The loan comes at a fixed annual interest rate of 3% and the payment period is 15 years, said Kalanovic, adding that the contract also envisages a minimum of 45% participation in the project by Serbian companies.
Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas said that the completion of this project will relieve the city of overcrowding and provide another route for traffic.
He said that the Zemun-Borca bridge and its accompanying roads will become a regional link between Belgrade and South Banat and connect Corridor 10 with Corridor 4 and Romania.
