Aleksandar Jovic and Nebojsa Ciric
At a press conference about the programme of measures to mitigate the negative impact of the global crisis, Ciric specified that the state will set aside RSD 3,535,000 through the programme this year.
He explained that thanks to these funds, banks will grant subsidised loans to businesses and citizens of around RSD 90 billion.
He also noted that in 2009 the state secured around €1.1 billion in loans to businesses and citizens through banks by subsidising interest rates to the amount of €55 million.
Ciric stressed that the programme of measures for 2009 yielded satisfactory results against recession and helped to halt the fall in economic activity.
The State Secretary highlighted that the crisis in Serbia is not over yet, but noted that 2010 will be easier than last year, adding that the subsidised loan programme will be implemented as long as there is need for such assistance.
Director of the National Corporation for Housing Loan Insurance Aleksandar Jovic said that in the last three months, when the implementation of the Decree on housing loan insurance began, 897 loans were approved and RSD 750 million set aside.
Jovic said that the average loan approved amounts to €38,000. Of the total number of loans approved, over 40% were approved in Belgrade, 26% in Vojvodina and 32% in south and central Serbia.
The advantages are big and it is not likely that we will soon have such favourable loans again, Jovic said, and called on citizens who do not have a flat to apply for a loan.
He explained that the state pays the interest on the loans in the first three and last five years of the repayment period and added that estimates show that the overall interest rate that citizens will have to pay will not exceed 2.5%.
Jovic said that RSD 2 billion have been set aside for 2010 for the continuation of the Programme of subsidised loans for newly-built apartments.
