Tadic said during the visit that two brand new Fiat models will be produced at Zastava, for which a surprise unveiling will be arranged.
He said that Fiat’s investment in the Serbian car industry should serve as the backbone of the domestic car industry.
Tadic said that developing the car industry will create thousands of new jobs.
Dinkic said that the plentiful supply of good news for Serbia this month culminated with the one most important for Serbian industry, the payment of a sum of €100 million by Fiat for the car factory in Kragujevac.
The Minister explained that this marks the beginning of investments that will make it possible for Zastava to start producing two new models in 2011, jointly with Fiat.
He said that Fiat’s investment also symbolises Serbia’s exit from the economic crisis, bearing in mind that Fiat had earlier postponed its investment because of the crisis.
He said that he is convinced that Fiat Serbia will become a major exporter when it reaches its full production capacity of 200,000 cars per annum, which will be worth €2 billion annually, or a third of Serbia’s total exports.
He stressed that the car industry is set to become the mainstay of Serbia’s exports and Kragujevac will be transformed into the car industry centre of South Eastern Europe. He confirmed that the annex of the agreement with Fiat will be signed on December 23 in Belgrade.
