Dinkic, who opened the plenary session of the Serbian-Algerian Mixed Committee, recalled that in the time of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia foreign trade used to reach as much as $500 million, adding that foundations should be laid to help speed up economic cooperation.
The first field where Serbia and Algeria can improve cooperation are investment projects in Algeria, noting that an action plan for infrastructural projects to start before 2014 has already been prepared. Serbian construction companies are interested in participating in water management projects, Dinkic said.
He noted that the two countries can also cooperate in the pharmaceutical and weapons industry, adding that there is a huge opportunity for exporting agricultural products, machinery and furniture to Algeria.
Dinkic noted that the Algerian Central Bank does not recognize Serbian bank guarantees, stressing that this is a major obstacle to cooperation.
This issue must be solved either at the level of central banks from our two countries, or by setting up joint Serbian-Algerian companies, Dinkic said, highlighting that Serbia and Algeria have outstanding political relations and cooperation, but the void in economic cooperation must be filled.
Apart from representatives from the two delegations, businessmen from Serbia and Algeria also attended the committee meeting.
