Encouraging Turkish investment in Serbia

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mladjan Dinkic said today that representatives of the governments of Serbia and Turkey talked about investments in infrastructural projects in Serbia and direct cooperation between companies from the two countries.

Speaking to a Serbian-Turkish business council, Dinkic explained that the Serbian government offered Turkey two models of investment in infrastructure, firstly, a consortium of Turkish construction companies and financial institutions would be made, and secondly, in which the Eskim Bank would provide soft loans. He said that the transport infrastructure agreement that was signed envisages the upgrade of the Novi Pazar - Sjenica/Aljinovici and Novi Pazar-Tutin regional roads, which will be financed through a $30 million loan from the Turkish Eskim Bank. The main contractor will be the Turkish company Juksel, with the participation of Serbian companies. The minister said that the leading Turkish tractor manufacturer is interested in cooperation with the Serbian tractor factory IMT, and the company Esas, which owns two airlines, is interested in a partnership with Jat Airways. He said that the Turkish glass producer Pashabahtche expressed interest in a strategic cooperation with a Serbian glass factory and possibilities of cooperation in the field of light industry, household appliances and electronics were also examined. Dinkic and President of the Turker Group, Tamer Turker, signed an agreement on the renovation of the Bujanovacka Banja spa. This agreement between Turker Group and the Serbian Ministry of Economy and Regional Development will enhance spa tourism in this region.

The minister said that Turker Group wants to build a modern health centre in Bujanovacka Banja and that there is a plan to establish a joint company, in which the Turkish company will be a majority owner and the state of Serbia a minority owner.
