Speaking at an economic forum on Serbia, held at the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, Milosavljevic said that the global economic crisis has affected Serbia, but its economic potential has not been damaged.
He explained that the two most important European transit corridors pass through Serbia and Austria, which gives the two countries rights and obligations to exploit their potential.
The minister explained that Austria is a very important partner of Serbia and one of its greatest investors, and added that the two countries have a very good trade exchange.
There are over 280 Austrian companies operating in Serbia today, as well as 124 representative offices, Milosavljevic said, voicing his gratitude to the Austrian government for their donations, amounting to more than €40 million, that have helped the Serbian economy.
Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic said it was impossible to avoid the global crisis, but that the Serbian government’s key responses were to try and solve issues in public administration, remove administrative obstacles, pass laws to speed up the construction licence issuing process and invest in infrastructure.
Dulic said that Serbia needs foreign investment to develop the economy, emphasising that the government does not plan to increase taxes, but will solve budget issues through implementing savings measures.
Serbia will not give up on the construction of the transit corridors because they are the best possible investment in the time of crisis. The government will not turn a blind eye to investors’ problems, Dulic concluded.
