At the fourth session of the Serbia-Belarus Intergovernmental Committee for Trade and Economic Cooperation, held at the Serbian Government Palace, Kalanovic recalled that the initiative for boosting cooperation came from Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko.
Kalanovic thanked Belarus for their political support to Serbia in the preservation of its territorial integrity and sovereignty, voicing her expectation that Belarus will participate in the debate concerning the assessment of the legality of Kosovo’s unilaterally declared independence to be held at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
Belarus Minister of Trade Valentin Chekanov said that last year’s trade exchange between their countries stood at $65 million, while in the first seven months of 2009 it reached a mere $23 million due to the global crisis.
He stressed that this is the sign that economic cooperation should be intensified, adding that the free trade agreement, which Belarus and Serbia signed on March 31, 2009, opens new possibilities for that.
Tomorrow, September 30, Kalanovic and Chekanov will sign the protocol from the fourth session of the Serbia-Belarus Intergovernmental Committee for Trade and Economic Cooperation.
