The new and more favourable subsidised housing loan programme is aimed at encouraging citizens to buy flats, as well as encouraging construction companies to employ more workers and boosting the capacity of Serbia’s civil engineering industry.
Representatives of Serbia’s largest construction companies backed the government’s proposal.
The programme will start in October this year, with a no-interest period until October 31, 2012.
Citizens will have to make a down-payment of only 5%, the state will provide an additional 20% at an interest rate of 0.1%, while the banks will lend the remaining 75%.
The loans will be approved only for new or under construction flats for a period of up to 30 years.
The loan limit will be €100,000. All Serbian citizens younger than 45 years of age can apply.
