In a statement for the daily Blic, Milosavljevic said that top retailers Merkator, Metro, Intereks and Veroplus have settled their debts, adding that there still are some businesses that have not attempted to reduce their debts.
He said that at the moment the debt of Futura Plus is the largest, explaining that the latest audit of the overdue debt of retailers was made on July 14, after a second meeting between retailers, suppliers, government representatives and Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic.
The Minister said that it was established at that meeting that from May 28 to July 6, retailers reduced their debts towards suppliers by nearly 70.9%.
At the moment the biggest problem is Futura Plus which has not responded adequately to the government’s call for talks to reduce its debt, said Milosavljevic.
He said that at the upcoming meeting with the Prime Minister and government representatives, which will most likely be held in the second half of September, an effort will be made to find a model for paying their debt.
The debt of Futura Plus is putting a strain on the media because it is the biggest distributor of print media. This is the reason why the overall financial situation of the media is worse than it would otherwise have been, stressed the Minister.
Speaking about the debts of small retailers, Milosavljevic said that some progress has been made in this respect, but their debts are still quite large.
