According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development, Dinkic informed representatives of top French companies about ways of doing business in Serbia and the advantages of investing in our country. The two sides agreed that they are interested in developing economic ties.
The meeting concluded that Serbia has very positive experiences when it comes to French companies investing in Serbia.
Despite the global financial crisis Serbia has managed to achieve macroeconomic stability, said Dinkic, adding that an arrangement with the IMF has helped Serbia secure external liquidity, while internal liquidity has been preserved thanks to the government’s measures.
He recalled that France has invested $430 million in Serbia, thus becoming Serbia’s sixth largest economic partner.
Serbia is interested in cooperating with France over energy, infrastructure, traffic, electronics and the food industry, Dinkic said.
Dinkic invited French companies to compete at the upcoming tenders for building sections of Corridor 10, which is a priority project for the Serbian government and also an anti-recession measure which will lead to new jobs.
Representatives of French companies expressed interest in infrastructure projects, the hotels sector, the public utilities sector and public transport infrastructure projects.
The importance of Serbia’s bilateral free trade agreements with Russia, Belarus and Turkey was stressed at the meeting, which would make it possible for French companies to export free of customs to third markets.
MEDEF with 750,000 French enterprises as its members is the largest union of employers in France. It was founded in 1990 with the purpose of developing bilateral relations between French and foreign enterprises.
The most recent major French investment in Serbia was by Sagem in March this year. Sagem invested €6 million in a factory for producing electricity meters. The factory will employ 200 workers and its establishment also marks the beginning of the formation of a technology park in Nis.
