The Serbian parliament today adopted changes to the Law on the organisation of courts, Law on judges, Law on the organisation and jurisdiction of state bodies in the fight against organised crime, and the changes and amendments to the Law on court fees.
The changes and amendments to the Law on court fees, proposed by the Serbian government, will allow for appropriating part of collected court fees for raising salaries of staff in domestic courts and public prosecutor's offices, all with the aim of boosting the efficiency of the judiciary.
The changes to the laws on courts and judges alter the deadlines for establishing the number of judges and jurors in the courts of appeal and the Administrative Court. The former Law on the organisation of courts stipulated that the court of appeals and the Administrative Court begin their work on January 1, 2004. The new date set by the changes and amendments to this law is January 1, 2007.
The Serbian parliament also adopted a proposal of changes to the parliament's Rules of Procedure, appointed new members of the parliamentary committees and one member of the National Bank of Serbia Council
