Dinkic said that the aim is to promote trade with Iran considering that the Iranian market covers 82 million people and that we used to export goods worth over $1 billion annually to Iran during the time of the former Yugoslavia.
He confirmed that negotiations on free trade will start with Iran and noted that there are prospects for the export of meat to Iran.
We have opportunities for increasing trade. The figures are rather humble presently at only $50 million, but the Iranian Commerce Minister has expressed his hope that very soon it will be possible to increase trade with Serbia so that it would be at least 1% of Iran’s overall foreign trade, or nearly $1.5 billion annually, said Dinkic.
Dinkic said that a delegation from the ministries of economy and energy and the company Petrohemija from Pancevo will soon visit Iran’s National Petrochemical Company in Tehran, where opportunities for a strategic partnership between the two companies will be discussed.
The supply of petrol to Petrohemija will also be discussed. It was also agreed that the storage of Serbian grain in Iran for supply to the entire Persian Gulf area, Afghanistan and the Middle East will be discussed as well, said Dinkic, adding that agreement was also reached that Serbian companies should take part in constructing warehouses.
The Iranian delegation expressed their interest in Serbian agricultural produce, the import of meat from Serbia and investment in the meat industry.
It was stated that there is a huge potential for exporting wheat to Iran and for cooperation in the oil industry and other areas.
