Strategic defence overview adopted

The Serbian Defence Ministry stated that the Serbian government at its session today adopted the national strategic defence overview which is an institutional framework for implementing defence reforms.
According to the statement issued by the Defence Ministry the strategic defence overview was adopted by the government after it was approved by Serbian President Boris Tadic.
The strategic overview is an initial programme document which defines midterm defence planning, efficient defence resource management, the transparency of defence affairs, guidelines for democratic and civilian control and the professionalization and efficiency of the Serbian Army.
The document is based on strategic aims and Serbia’s determination to adapt to current global changes and to apply democratic defence organization standards.
The strategic defence overview includes an analysis of the security environment with a threat assessment, the Serbian Army’s missions and tasks, the Serbian Army’s goals until 2015, the current situation of the defence system and the Serbian Army’s capabilities, required capacity building within the defence system by 2010 and development priorities.
