Examined by sectors, in January 2009 compared to January 2008, there was a fall of 24.5% in the processing sector, 7.7% in mining and quarrying and there was a 0.3% growth in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and water.
The production of intermediary goods, excluding energy, fell by 38.5%, capital goods by 25.7%, non-durable consumer goods by 15.5%, durable consumer goods by 13.7% and energy production fell by 0.7%.
The industrial production volume in January 2009, compared to January 2008, shows that there was a slow down in 22 areas, which make up 74% of overall industrial production, while production increased in 7 areas, which make up 26% of overall industrial production.
Industrial production growth in January 2009, compared to January 2008, was mainly influenced by the production of basic metals, food products, chemicals and chemical goods, non-metallic mineral products and vehicles.
The seasonal adjustment of the industrial production index for January 2009, compared to the 2008 average, indicates a 13.2% fall in overall industrial production and a fall of 18.1% in the processing industry.
The seasonally adjusted industrial production index for January 2009, compared to December 2008, indicates a 4.4% fall in overall industrial production and a 7.7% fall in the processing industry.
The production of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that were not included in regular statistical surveys is monitored with the help of a sample of selected units of the processing industry.
Taking into account the assessment of the industrial production of SMEs from this sample, in January 2009 compared to the 2008 average, overall industrial production fell by 22.4% and the processing industry by 35%.
