Jovanovic, Brkanovic to participate in Regions for Economic Change conference in Brussels

Belgrade/Brussels, 17 February 2009

State Secretary for Regional Development Dejan Jovanovic and Assistant Minister of Economy and Regional Development Igor Brkanovic will participate today in the Regions for Economic Change conference in Brussels, organised by the European Commission’s Regional Policy Directorate General.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development, the Ministry’s draft law on regional development is completely in line with EU legislature and this conference is a great opportunity for our region to start cooperating with EU regions, as well as for Serbia to achieve an even development of its various regions.

The conference will comprise more than 500 representatives from European, national, regional and local administrations, business associations, banks and SMEs.

Regional Policy Commissioner Danuta Hibner will open the ceremony, granting awards to the best projects concerning regional development policy.

Nine workshops will present strategies, experiences and projects concerning this issue.

State Secretary Dejan Jovanovic and Assistant Minister Igor Brkanovic will visit Luxembourg on February 18 to meet with representatives from the European Investment Fund, being in charge of the entrepreneurship and innovation programme, concludes the statement.
