January prices of goods, services up 3%

The Serbian Statistics Office stated today that the retail prices of services and goods in January 2009 increased on average by 3%, compared to the previous month.
Namely, goods increased price by 2.2% while services went up by 5.1%.
In January 2009 compared to January 2008, living costs rose by 9.6%.
The difference between the retail price index and the consumer price index was a result of the various influences that the rise in prices of particular items had on these indices.
By groups, compared with the previous month, the prices of agricultural products increased by 1%. The increase was due to the seasonal shift in the price of vegetables, fruit, fish and eggs.
The price of industrial food products went up by 0.6% on average.
There has also been an increase in the price of vegetables and fruit, fresh meats and meat products.
The prices of beverages went up by 2.6% on average.
Tobacco prices went up by 14.9%.
The price of industrial non-food products were up by 1.7% on average. In this group, the price of drugs and oil derivatives increased. The prices of other goods did not change significantly.
The price of services increased by 5.1% on average mainly due to the price increase of communal, transportation and postal services.
