Consumer goods prices went up by 8.6% in December 2008 compared to December 2007, while the average consumer goods price growth rate in 2008 stood at 11.7%.
By classification groups, compared with the previous month, the largest price hike was recorded in the restaurant and hotel group (0.7%), while the prices of garments and footwear went up 0.6%. The cost of housing, water, electricity, gas and other heating sources went up 0.3%. The prices of services related to recreation and cultural activities went up by 0.3%, while food and non-alcoholic beverages and transport prices fell by 1.6% and 4.4% respectively.
The prices of other goods and services did not change significantly.

The CPI is defined as a measure of the average change in retail prices of goods and services used for personal consumption.
