Addressing a press conference, Vukmirovic said that retail prices in the December 2007-December 2008 period increased by 6.8%.
He said that retail prices of goods and services in December 2008 fell on average by 1% when compared to the previous month.
Vukmirovic said that in December 2008, compared to December 2007, goods prices fell by 1.5%, while the prices of services went up by 0.2%.
He said that the GDP real growth rate in the third quarter of 2008, compared to the same period in 2007, stood at 4.9%, while the GDP went up by 6.5% during the first nine months of 2008.
The financial mediation sector grew at a rate of 13.9%, the biggest growth rate this year. The transport sector grew by 13.6%, trade by 7.6%, ore and stone mining by 4.2%, while the hospitality sector fell by 1.8%, said Vukmirovic.
He said that industrial production in Serbia in November 2008 fell by 2.6% when compared to November 2007, adding that in the January-November 2008 period, compared to the same period in 2007, industrial production grew by 2%.
According to Vukmirovic, Serbia’s foreign trade in the January-November 2008 period was valued at $31.661 billion, up by 28.4% compared to the same period in 2007.
Serbia’s foreign trade deficit during that period stood at $11.155 billion, 29.2% more than in the same period in 2007. Goods worth $10,253.3 million were exported, up by 28% compared to the same period in 2007. Goods worth $21,408.6 million were imported, up by 28.6% compared to the same period in 2007, explained Vukmirovic.
He said that gross salaries continued to increase in 2008 and compared to 2007 were up by 17.5% in nominal terms and by 3.8% in real terms.
Vukmirovic said that for the first time a workforce survey was conducted in Belgrade, central Serbia and Vojvodina during October this year.
The survey included a total of 20,715 persons. Data was collected about the work activities of 18,205 persons, according to which the unemployment rate among the economically active population in Serbia stands at 14%, said Vukmirovic.
He said that the unemployment rate in Belgrade is 14.2%, in central Serbia 13.8% and in Vojvodina 14.2%.
