In a statement to the press, following a meeting with caucus whips, Cvetkovic said that he will meet today with Minister of Finance Diana Dragutinovic to discuss concrete amendments to the 2009 budget bill.
Cvetkovic suggested that according to one idea, the remaining time in 2008 for parliamentary debate on the budget should be evenly distributed among the caucuses and the discussion should take place in the parliament hall.
The second idea is that representatives from the Ministry of Finance and caucuses meet outside the parliament hall and discuss which amendments are acceptable in order to shorten the time needed for parliamentary debate, he added.
The Prime Minister noted that all caucuses, except for the Serbian Radical Party caucus which still insists on debating the amendments, are ready to reach an agreement so that the budget can be adopted before the year’s end.
Cvetkovic voiced his hope that agreement will be reached with that caucus as well, reiterating that if the government shifts to provisional financing, it will only increase expenditure.
The adoption of the budget will enable the government to conduct the planned economic policy in 2009, concluded the Prime Minister.
