After meeting with Fiat representatives, led by President of the Managing Board Giovanni de Phillipis and trade union representatives from Kragujevac’s Zastava, Ciric announced that the testing of 2,800 Zastava employees will start from January.
He said that the 1,000 best candidates will be employed immediately, adding that individual one hour interviews will be held with each of the remaining 1,800 emplyees.
He said that Fiat has made a serious commitment and the process of establishing the terms of business between the company and Serbia is going smoothly, despite the financial crisis which has seriously affected the car industry.
Ciric said that Fiat is considering the possibility of building factories in Serbia to produce certain car parts and even engines, but it is too early to talk about these plans.
He said that the sale of large cars has fallen considerably because of the financial crisis and there is a demand for smaller and more fuel-efficient cars, adding that precisely such a car will be produced in Kragujevac by 2010.
