At a meeting of the parliamentary Committee on Youth and Sport, Djelic said that the next step towards excellent organisation of Universiade 2009 will be to adopt a budget of RSD 4.3 billion, that is, around €50 million.
He said that an important test of the organising process will be the supervisory visit of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) scheduled for end-November.
According to him, the budget will be adopted at state, provincial and city levels, with the state earmarking RSD 2.3 billion, Belgrade RSD 1.2 billion and Vojvodina RSD 800 million..
Djelic recalled that due to the global financial crisis countries such as Great Britain and Russia have also cut down their projected budgets for the London Olympics 2012 and Sochi Winter Olympics 214.
He noted that all contentious agreements made by the previous management of Universiade 2009 have been annulled.
General Director of Universiade 2009 Zoran Jovanovic informed the committee that 86 people are involved in the organisation of this largest ever student sporting event, adding that the construction of the university village is going as planned.
Around 10,000 volunteers are ready to join in, he said, adding that financial revisions have been completed.
The Committee on Youth and Sports adopted the proposed budget on condition that once a month a report is submitted to the committee stating the way in which the funds are spent.
