Dragutinovic told the Tanjug news agency that according to the Law on the budget system, the government must adopt the proposed budget by November 1 at the latest and forward it to parliament, which in turn must adopt it before December 15 so that it can come into force on January 1 next year.
She said that the budget for 2009 is in the initial drafting stage and added that after its adoption by the government, the proposed budget will most likely be sent to parliament by November 20.
According to her, negotiations with the ministries have just started and it is too early to talk about concrete figures, but it is clear that the deficit has to be lower.
Dragutinovic also recalled that on October 29, the Ministry started negotiations with the IMF on Serbia’s macroeconomic policy and the budget for 2009.
The two sides have been presenting their plans for the budget revenues and expenditures for 2009, said the Minister adding that revenues are relatively predictable and can therefore be projected correctly, while there is a problem when it comes to expenditures, concluded Dragutinovic.
