The statement says that 69 SMEs were chosen by public invitation to obtain technical and consultative help in order to become suppliers of those multinational corporations participating in the programme, including US Steel, Coca-Cola, Ball Packaging, Telenor, Siemens, Gorenje, British American Tobacco, General Motors and many others.
SMEs which took part in the programme made direct contact with multinational corporations, improving their production programmes and management, as well sharing their technologies and other knowledge.
Multinational corporations which took part in the programme were able to find suppliers in Serbia and thus cut procurement costs, reads the statement, adding that establishing cooperation between SMEs and multinational corporations considerably improves economic development and stimulates foreign direct investment.
As part of the programme an electronic data base of SMEs has been set up, soon to be available at
www.siepa.gov.rs.
A brochure was also published for SMEs aiming to become suppliers of or increase their sales volumes to multinational corporations, themed “Serbian Companies’ Guide to Understanding and Meeting Demands of Multinational Companies.”
The Serbian Suppliers Development Programme is implemented within the Serbian Investment Promotion Programme, financed by the EU, concludes the statement.
