State Secretary of Regional Development at the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development Dejan Jovanovic stated today that the government sets aside RSD 20 billion annually for loans and subsidies for support to SME development.
At a meeting devoted to results of the draft index for SME development policy in 2009 and defining policy goals within the European Charter on Small Enterprises Jovanovic said that over 30,000 people were employed in the SME sector last year.
He specified that this year over €35 million was set aside for loans to 2,200 start-ups and the plan is to grant loans to 3,000 start-ups a year.
He said that the European Charter on Small Enterprises is important for creating entrepreneurship development policy in Serbia and added that strengthening this aspect will help Serbia's EU integration process.
Organiser of the bilateral meeting with representatives of the European Commission and the OSCE is the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development. Assistant Minister Igor Brkanovic and representative of the European Commission Directorate General Edward Tersmette addressed the gathering.
